‘The View’ to host controversy over welcoming Marjorie Taylor Greene as MAGA defector

The hosts of “The View” argued Wednesday about whether to welcome MAGA defectors like former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, now that they have turned to President Donald Trump.
Host Joy Behar said that both sides of the political spectrum need to reconcile, saying, “They both have big problems, they realize the things they’ve said in the past about each other that are horrible, on both sides really, but it seems to me that they see the emergency we’re in right now with Trump and the White House.”
“I will always welcome you – you have seen the light, enter my tent,” said Behar. “There’s a lot of room for non-Trumpets and non-Trumpets. Maybe that’s what it’s going to be now.”
His fellow broadcaster Sara Haines rejected this idea, saying that accepting people on the right would not be wise if they still hold ideas and organizations that he finds problematic.

“So these details are important,” Haines said. “Because you admit, ‘Oh, I don’t like Trump,’ I’m not like, great, welcome inside. You have to look at the character of the people you’re talking about.”
“So what should we do? Abandon him completely?” Behar asked.
“Yes,” host Sunny Hostin said. “We have to get rid of him completely. I’m sorry Joy.”
As the debate and discussion continued, Hostin reported to Behar, asking, “Why are you so agreeable, Joy?”
“I have no grudges,” said Behar. “If they want to come to me, I take them. [Greene] you are talking to the MAGA domain.”
“The View” has had Greene on the show twice in the past six months. In November, while in Congress, Greene surprised participants by praising them for their behavior. In January, shortly after leaving Congress due to disagreements with the Trump administration, Greene rejected requests from libertarians to become a Democrat.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., suggested Sunday on “Pod Save America” that Democrats should be kind to former Trump supporters who have split with him on key issues after host Tommy Vietor played a viral clip of Greene in a recent interview urging Americans to “open their eyes” and see that Trump is “not the same man we supported” a decade ago.
Omar, who has traded barbs with the Georgia Republican for years, said he praised Greene on the floor of the House before he left for criticizing the war in Gaza.
Host Whoopi Goldberg sparked the conversation on “The View” by playing clips of both interviews and said, “Really, the question is, can voters on both sides of the aisle step through this madness and do something about what we’re seeing? Can people say, ‘Yeah, we don’t agree on a lot of things, but we agree on this, that this house can’t go on.'”
“And that’s the key,” Goldberg said, arguing that what Greene posits as politics or plans to do doesn’t matter so much as telling his conservative colleagues that Trump’s presidency is not what they thought it would be.
“He has to do that,” Hostin said. “But, as far as welcoming him with open arms like Joy wants to do and giving him a big hug, I won’t do that.” He criticized the Americans who voted for Trump three times, saying they turned the country into chaos.
“That’s why we need someone like him!” Behar argued.
“You need him, but there’s no need to accept him. I’m sorry, it’s unforgivable,” insisted Hostin, and was finally told by Goldberg to calm down.
Greene did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene is leaving a career that desperately tries to stay relevant by going on liberal news programs to smear President Trump,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle told Fox News Digital. “Unfortunately, Trump Derangement Syndrome has rotted Congresswoman Greene’s peanut-sized brain.”

Host Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed with Behar about trying to find common ground on important issues with people who hold opposing views. He went on to say that there have been Democrats who frankly said that they did not need to win Republican votes, but found out that they lost the election.
“You must be willing to increase your solidarity with the people who were deceived, who thought that the economy would be strong, they thought that the border would be secured, but there will be bad people who are expelled, and you must accept them,” he said.

Goldberg pointed out that people like Greene have a unique ability to force his colleagues to oppose the Trump administration because he voted to replace him in many past problems.
“It’s not a bear hug,” she said. “It’s like, finally, I’m glad you’ve seen the light. Go say it on the mountain.”
