FBI Director Kash Patel on Monday invited Representative Eric Swalwell to sit down with the bureau for talks after the California Democrat resigned amid allegations of sexual misconduct, fueling a feud between the two.

Patel’s proposal came as Swalwell said he plans to resign from Congress as he faces a barrage of scrutiny following allegations of sexual misconduct, including a claim by a former aide who allegedly assaulted him. Swalwell has denied the allegations, and an ethical and criminal investigation is ongoing.

Patel also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.

“@EricSwalwell maintains that none of the allegations against him are true, and now that he has resigned, we would welcome him to sit down with the FBI and share any information he has,” Patel wrote to X. “We also encourage and welcome anyone with relevant information on any of these matters to speak to us. The door is open to everyone.”

Patel offered government exposure to Swalwell, a seven-term congressman and California’s leading gubernatorial candidate before dropping out, after the two served on opposite sides of the House Intelligence Committee during the investigation into whether President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia.

Patel, who was a senior assistant in the committee, wrote a book titled “Government Gangsters” in which he listed a number of members of the so-called deep state. He noted in the letter that the list was incomplete and left out “corrupt players of the first order like Congressmen Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell.”

Patel’s spokeswoman Erica Knight revived talk of a dispute between Swalwell and Patel last year during a hearing.

“Director Patel: ‘I’m going to borrow your words and call bull—- on your entire career in Congress. It’s been a disgrace to the American people.’ [2013-2026],” Knight wrote, citing an exchange between Patel and Swalwell.

Patel last month ordered a review of 10-year-old FBI files on Swalwell’s meeting with accused Chinese spy Christine Fang, a move Swalwell’s lawyers characterized in a filing as “an unusual use of FBI resources to target a political enemy.”

Swalwell had a hostile relationship with many Republicans. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stripped Swalwell of his seat on the intel committee in 2023, saying at the time that he was dishonest and therefore “we will not give him America’s secrets.”

Swalwell suspended his campaign for council over the weekend following a report by the San Francisco Chronicle detailing the allegations of a former employee accusing him of beating him twice and allegedly being so drunk that he agreed to have a relationship with him.

The House Ethics Committee announced Monday that it has opened an investigation into Swalwell, and the Manhattan District Attorney’s office confirmed that it has opened an investigation into him.

Swalwell dismissed what he called “serious, false allegations” against him but has apologized in recent statements for unspecified “mistakes” he made.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Swalwell’s office and the FBI for comment.
