Tottenham are ready to make a £12m bid to sign the Argentine winger this summer

Tottenham are set to make a £12m bid to sign River Plater star Ian Subiabre, according to reports in Argentina.

Spurs are in the suburbs of Subiabre

Subiabre is a 19-year-old midfielder who broke into River’s first team in 2025, and has played 36 times for the club, scoring three goals.

Spurs chiefs are confident Roberto De Zerbi will defend their Premier League title in the final seven games of the season, and have begun making plans to improve the squad with high-ceiling young signings.

Reports earlier this month claimed that Subiabre’s agents were open to a move to England, and were working to reduce his price from his massive release clause of £87m.

Now, Argentinian journalist Hernan Castillo, translated by Sports Witness, has revealed that Tottenham are in the best position to sign the Argentine U-17 international.

“River will have a strong market in the middle of the year. They will spend, but they will also bring money because it is very difficult for them to keep Subiabre. It is very difficult, he has a very high interest.

“I know that Tottenham, Chelsea, Villarreal, Lazio always ask questions. And now Tottenham are very strong.”

Castillo also claims that Spurs are considering a bid worth between 12 million euros and 14 million euros (£10.5m-£12m), while River rejected a previous offer of 8 million euros (£7m) from an unnamed club.

Subiabre could be Tottenham’s next Archie Gray

Tottenham’s senior players have been urged to follow Archie Gray’s example if the club are to avoid relegation for the first time in 49 years.

Spurs are in 17th place after a 13-game winless run in the Premier League and with seven games to go they have turned to Roberto De Zerbi in an attempt to maintain the level of play in the top flight.

In a disappointing season Gray has been a standout player, and David Howells – who helped Tottenham avoid double defeats in 1994 and 1997 – believes others must follow the 20-year-old’s lead ahead of Sunday’s trip to Sunderland.

“You’d definitely hope that some of the older players would look at Archie in the dressing room and say, ‘Look at this guy, he’s stepping up and he’s unfazed, that’s where we all need to be in terms of attitude and performance’. Yes, he’s been a constant light,” Howells told the Press Association.

The new manager is doing a great job.

“I thought he was our best player and (against Nottingham Forest) I said after the game against Atletico Madrid that he looked like an England midfielder, I did it because he looked the part.

“It is an honor for him because a young boy like this, playing in a team that is struggling, can sink but in fact he has gone the other way and has been an outstanding player in many of the games he has played.

“Yes, great credit to him and it’s great to see a young player like him at this time thinking about what he can be because the sky is the limit.”
