Former PGA Tour Pro Urges Tiger Woods To Quit Golf After DUI

The former PGA Tour professional golfer pleads Tiger Woods closing it after his recent DUI arrest.

“Why would he need to play golf again?” golf analyst Brandel Chamblee said Friday, March 27, episode of Golf Central. “I think he should ask himself that. Consider not playing golf anymore.”

He continued, “It’s clear that Tiger Woods has a history of pushing himself to his physical limit. Beyond his physical limit. … To the extent that he keeps hurting himself, hurting himself, needing surgery … those surgeries and injuries are accompanied by prescribed pain medication. And unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the last 20 to 30 years and you’re connecting pain to pain, you can’t connect pain to pain.”

(Woods completed a “private, intensive” substance abuse treatment program following his 2017 DUI arrest. The golfer was found asleep behind the wheel, with Vicodin and Xanax in his system. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and entered a first-time DUI offender diversion program.)

Chamblee, 63, said he did not want to speculate on what caused Woods’ accident on Friday, urging viewers to “let the facts come out.”

Woods, 50, was arrested Friday afternoon in Jupiter Island, Florida, after being involved in a rollover accident. He was later charged with DUI, criminal damage to property and refusing to submit to a legal sobriety test after he refused a urine test when authorities arrived at the scene.

The golfer completed a breathalyzer test that resulted in three zeros, suggesting that Woods was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

“He’s done his job in golf,” Chamblee added to the program. “There is nothing he will do on the Champions Tour … that will add to his history. It has been clear since 2021 that he will not be able to play at a competitive level on the PGA Tour. His body will not allow him to do what his talents have led him to do.”

He continued, “That seems to be the only situation that can alleviate this problem. Other than that, he hopes that he will get the care and help that he needs.”

Woods spent about eight hours in the Martin County Jail — per Florida law — and was released around 11 a.m. ET Friday.

According to the Martin County Sheriff John BudensiekWoods was driving a black Land Rover and clipped the back of a van pulling a small trailer, causing Woods’ SUV to flip over.

No injuries were reported in the accident.

Woods was also involved in another one-car accident back in 2021, which resulted in a broken ankle and two broken legs. No illegal or prescribed drug use was suspected at the time.
