Crystal Palace prepare bid to sign Brighton target who scored 16 goals in 25/26

Crystal Palace and Brighton could go head-to-head in the race for the “master” midfielder, who is enjoying an excellent campaign.

Palace are eyeing a midfielder as Wharton looks to make the squad for the England squad

Adam Wharton will be hoping to add to his three England caps during the current international break, with the midfielder included in manager Thomas Tuchel’s 35-man squad.

However, the midfielder is well aware that he has work to do to force his way into Tuchel’s plans, recently saying: “I think it is the dream of all young boys to be able to go to the World Cup to represent their country.

“I’ll try to impress as much as I can and try and play as well as I can until the players get on that plane and I hope I’m one of them. I think there’s still a few games to play before then a lot more will happen, but hopefully I can do well enough and show that I deserve a ticket on the plane.”

Having already named the starting XI for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, Wharton is being considered, and is being linked with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, after his spell at Palace.

With Sky Sports revealing that the Eagles will need to cash in on one of their star players this summer, the Englishman could be on the move, with his current employers looking for a replacement.

Palace enter race to sign ‘king’ midfielder

According to a report by Sports Boom, Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur are facing a fierce battle in the race to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Sven Mijnans, as Crystal Palace have entered the race.

Palace have sent scouts to watch Mijnans in action this season, and a deal for a hefty €30m (£26m) is likely.

Interestingly, the report claims that the Eagles and Spurs are already preparing a bid for the Dutchman, so he could steal a march on his rivals, and he could be an interesting player, having scored 16 goals in all competitions already this season.

In that time, the 26-year-old has shown versatility playing in both attacking and defensive midfield roles, while also captaining AZ Alkmaar for the majority of the campaign.

The maestro was also praised by former Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen in the past, who said: “You’re a master at managing the simple things. At making the most logical and rhythmic choices you can make.”

£26m isn’t going to break the bank for a club like Palace, especially when you consider that Wharton could pay £70m, and it would be interesting if they could make a move this summer, by which time Steve Parish & co would have to hire a new manager.
