Rotherham are now talking about hiring the former West Brom boss on a permanent basis

Rotherham are looking for their next manager after sacking Matt Hamshaw, and the former West Brom boss, who has been linked with a return to the Baggies, is on their mind.

West Brom are considering a managerial future

West Brom is not a club that tends to sit on the edge like this.

Five seasons in a row in the Championship, and now, with eight games to go, they are headed for the abyss.

James Morrison’s side sit in 21st place – just one point above the relegation zone – struggling to avoid relegation from League One for the first time since 1993.

There have been some very dark times in this name.

Ryan Mason, appointed in the summer on a three-year contract, stayed until January after poor results.

Eric Ramsay was parachuted in to replace him, arriving from Minnesota United with little Championship experience and little time to prove himself – nine games, no wins, and he too was gone.

West Brom’s “highest ceiling” star could be their new Harvey Barnes

James Morrison could get his own Harvey Barnes in the highly-rated West Bromwich Albion star.

Morrison, a club legend, was handed the keys for a third interim period and was confirmed as manager for the rest of the season on March 4, with former fans’ favorite Darren Moore among those who took part before the decision was made.

The 3-0 win over Hull City last Saturday will feel like breathing again.

Goals from Josh Maja, Aune Heggebo and a late finish from Isaac Price ended a 13-game wait to win the league and move the Baggies out of the bottom three.

Hull, who boast one of the best records in the Championship, had Charlie Hughes sent off midway through the first half and was absent afterwards. It was the kind of afternoon that desperate fans needed.

But with Bristol City gone today and weeks on the ground, all points matter – and the question of management has not gone away entirely.

Rotherham are talking about signing Darren Moore after West Brom rumors

Moore, who spent less than a year in charge of the Baggies between 2018 and 2019 and made more than 100 appearances for the club as a player, was widely reported as the front-runner to replace Ramsay before West Brom made a short-term commitment to Morrison.

Now, Sports Boom claim that Rotherham are also circling the 51-year-old.

Rotherham are holding internal talks about a managerial reshuffle – and Moore is one of three names being seriously considered.

The Millers parted ways with Hamshaw earlier this week after the 5-0 thrashing at Peterborough and brought in Lee Clark as a temporary solution.

But with the board aware that important work still awaits whether they are to escape from League Two, they are already thinking about the bigger picture.

Moore, Darrell Clarke and Darren Ferguson are understood to have been discussed, with all three bringing pedigree to promotion from the lower leagues.

Moore has managed Yorkshire three times before – at Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town – and Rotherham’s interest makes sense on paper.

For West Brom, it is less important now that Morrison is confirmed.

However, if the Baggies survive and look to make the summer permanent, seeing a familiar and popular name tied up elsewhere would narrow the options considerably.

The development of Jayson Molumby sold by West Brom almost five years ago is now worth more than any of their players.
