Sheffield Utd panic as Celtic monitor Tyrese Campbell

Celtic have now caused shockwaves at Sheffield United by sending officials to strengthen their interest in the attacking star ahead of the summer transfer window.

McGregor puts the belief of the title before the important run

The international break may have given the Bhoys some much-needed relief, but that won’t last forever. When this game comes back, Celtic face the last uphill battle for the Scottish Premiership title.

As things stand, it’s still Hearts who sit top of the league and are on course to win a shock title. In the second place, there are Rangers sitting behind the leaders by three points.

Then there’s Celtic, who are now five points behind Hearts following their slip-up against Dundee United last week. A win would put them within two points of the leaders, but a defeat could end their title hopes.

However, Callum McGregor doesn’t feel that way. The Celtic captain is still hopeful that his team will return, telling the media that: “You don’t want to lose football games, but there is still football to be played.

“The top five teams are really competing, so there are points we have to play for, we have to do as well as we can, put together a team that gives us a good chance to win the league.

Celtic are now preparing to make a summer exit for ‘highly regarded’ player

He is popular in the squad.

“Listen, time will tell. We’ll see if we need to win them all or not, but I think we should make a run. Of course, you have to win at least five or six to have a good chance.”

With or without the title, those at Parkhead have some big decisions to make this summer – starting with adding to their offensive front line.

Celtic made personal checks on Tyrese Campbell

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic officials have now personally assessed Tyrese Campbell and could now follow up their January interest with another attempt this summer.

It’s not news that Sheffield United will want to hear. The striker has scored six goals in all competitions this season, but is yet to sign a new contract at Bramall Lane.

O’Neill could bench Hatate for Celtic’s next Matt O’Riley

Celtic could finally get Reo Hatate out of the side by letting go of starlet Matt O’Riley.

Any hope that he could sign before he leaves on a free transfer in 2027 is dashed by the week and Celtic’s interest is unlikely to help matters.

Having played 34 of the Blades’ 39 Championship games this season, it’s clear that the 26-year-old still has an important role to play at the club and it would be an upsetting loss. Called “outstanding” by manager Chris Wilder last April, Sheffield United’s loss could quickly become Celtic’s gain.

The Bhoys are in dire need of someone to freshen up their midfield and Campbell could be a solid player, given how he has shown signs of his good form under Wilder this season.

On the financial side, there is a chance that Celtic could make a big-money deal if the striker fails to pen a new deal before the summer transfer window.
