Sandro Tonali’s camp are now working on a summer exit, with talks held with Liverpool
Liverpool have been in talks to sign the “unbelievable” Premier League star this summer, with his camp now in full swing.
The Reds are stepping up their pursuit of the Newcastle star
Unlike Newcastle United, who were eliminated from the Champions League on Wednesday night, due to an 8-3 defeat against Barcelona, the Reds managed to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Arne Slot’s side did it in style again, beating Galatasaray with a 4-0 win at Anfield, and the manager was delighted with his side’s performance, saying: “From the beginning to the end, I think we played the game that I expected, the players that I expected and I also expected it. Not only did we play a perfect game from the beginning to the end but the fans also played well.
“Right from the start they were not on the receiving end of what we thought would happen and what happened was that they would create a situation where the energy would run out on the field by making sure that there was not much time to play.
The Merseysiders have not looked impressive for large parts of the Premier League campaign, currently sitting in fifth place, but are in strong position to qualify for next season’s Champions League, which should give them an edge over ninth-placed Newcastle in the transfer market.
Interestingly, one of Eddie Howe’s most important players has been talking to other Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with Liverpool now emerging as potential suitors.
“Unbelievable” the Newcastle star is now in talks to leave
According to a TEAMtalk report, Newcastle are worried about the future of Sandro Tonali, and Liverpool have held talks to sign the Italian midfielder over the past month, along with Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Any deal will be expensive, with the Magpies putting a £100m price tag on him, meaning a return to Italy may not be off the table, despite the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus also expressing an interest.
Fellow midfielder Bruno Guimaraes spoke highly of the 25-year-old, saying last season: “He’s been through a tough time in his career but he’s always been positive. He’s an unbelievable player and an amazing man.”
The maestro played a major role in Newcastle being able to enter the Champions League last season, playing 36 Premier League games, scoring four goals and two assists.
Jamie Carragher has stressed the importance of Liverpool bringing in a new midfielder this summer, with defender Alexis Mac Allister completely unsatisfied, and having proven himself in the Premier League, Tonali could be a great addition to the Slot squad.
Liverpool are now leading the race to sign the £208k-a-week Champions League star who has held talks with Chelsea.
The Reds are in pole position.
