“That was our main goal from the beginning was to make a show that the fans of the original game loved and felt satisfied with. [it is] again [a show] that new viewers can tune in from the beginning of NCIS: Origins,” cocreator Gina Monreal described in Us Weekly in April 2025. “Viewers can jump in and not get confused and get on board with our characters and their stories. We’ve always looked at it from that perspective. I feel like we’ve succeeded.”
He continued: “We are really keen to stick to the canon [events]. We are strict about that. We want to honor motherhood. We both wrote about my mother and we love that show. But we also like to get into our new characters and into their emotional lives. “
Meanwhile, Montreal and the producer David J. North talked about how they were able to test everything they had planned for season 1 – but there’s one idea they want to expand on.
“Special Agent Gary Callahan – or Special Agent K-9 – we could get more of him out there. So we need more flashes,” North said. “Maybe the next finale. NCIS: Gary Callahan.”
