Kendra Duggar she learned to communicate with her husband, Joseph Duggarin prison after he was arrested on suspicion of having illicit sex with a child.
“Oh, of course [it] does it cost money to call me all the time?” Kendra, 27, asked Joseph, 31, during a phone conversation while he was in custody at Arkansas’s Washington County Sheriff’s Office late last month, according to audio obtained by Us Weekly. “Do you need more money?”
Joseph explained that he originally had $60 for phone and other privileges, which were determined based on the amount in his wallet when he was booked in Washington County.
“I will not use it for anything else,” Joseph told his wife. “You might [ask your lawyer] Travis [Story] about what it looks like.”
Joseph was like that he was arrested on March 18 on charges of disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct after allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl in Florida in 2020. The victim, now 14, told police that Joseph “eventually apologized for his actions” before “the incidents ended.”
The news came out two days later that The Countdown Continues alum and facing four charges endangering the welfare of a minor, second degree, and four counts of false imprisonment. Kendra was arrested on similar charges and released a few hours later on bond. (A spokesperson for the Duggar family confirmed it Us (that the charges are unrelated to Joseph’s sexual misconduct case.)
During a previous phone call with Joseph, Kendra revealed that he does not currently have custody to their four children.
After Kendra was released from prison, she continued to communicate with Joseph by phone and email.
“I left my phone, so I can always get your calls, I hope,” he told her on the phone, noting that at first “he didn’t know what the situation was.
Joseph then told Kendra that they could also send emails, which he thought would be inexpensive.

“I emailed you, I think, to see if that happened,” she said. “Remember I can try to do it that way too. I think those are free.”
Joseph also received emails from his father, Jim Bob Duggarand his sister-in-law Anna Duggar. Anna, 37, is married Josh DuggarHe is currently in prison after being sentenced in 2022 for possessing and receiving child pornography.
In Anna’s email, she offered to help Kendra set up an email chain with Joseph.
“I was amazed at how clearly he thought, how focused and articulate he was,” added Anna in one of her emails to Joseph. “Love you deeply. She was strong on the phone, except when she talked about it a month before she saw the kids. My heart aches for you all. I know she will win in the end…it may take time. Kendra is an amazing woman – God’s grace flows through her life. She is a gem!”
Joseph was returned to Florida earlier this week, where he entered a plea of not guilty. He was released on $600,000 bond.
