Farke could bench Aaronson for new Leeds signing Georginio Rutter

With the international break over, Daniel Farke is set to return to Leeds United in poor form. His side are without a Premier League trophy in their last six games, but have a chance to do so on April 13 against rivals Manchester United.

If they are going to get back to their impressive winning ways, however, they will have to be without Brenden Aaronson. The attacking midfielder was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Farke’s system overhaul, but has struggled to return to form over the past month or so.

It is not time for Farke to welcome the passengers to his side. Leeds are yet to secure their Premier League safety, leaving the Germans with some big decisions to make.

Why Leeds must offload Brenden Aaronson

If Aaronson was hoping for international relief after his team’s form dipped in recent weeks, he should have looked elsewhere.

He was forced to watch from the bench as the United States were beaten 5-2 by Belgium, before playing his part in a 2-0 loss against Portugal.

England's Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the match

Leeds are “all-in” on the hunt for a new striker who is “ready” to play alongside Calvert-Lewin.

The Whites are very keen to bring in a new midfielder.

The break has done nothing but compound his woes and a return to Yorkshire is likely to do the same if Farke makes what could be the right decision.

Having initially been involved in five goals in 10 Premier League appearances in the new 5-4-1 system, Aaronson has since not been involved in the last seven.

His influence has diminished so completely that he was more of a hindrance than anything against Brentford before the international break.

More worryingly, despite Aaronson having a direct impact on Leeds’ goal output, he is losing the battle at the heart of Farke’s side.

The American simply wasn’t ready to make the sacrifice as it was too late.

Farke must eventually turn to the new Rutter at Leeds

With 11 days to go before Leeds follow up after enjoying a fortnight off, one man who should be ready to feature is Facundo Buonanotte.

When the Argentine midfielder arrived on loan in January, it felt like a long time coming. Farke had finally found his man. Since then, however, it seems that the Leeds boss was never too fond of him in the first place.

Aaronson’s problems, combined with the fact that Buonanotte should be more than settled at this stage, should change the script against Man United.

If those at Elland Road are looking for creativity, then it’s the Brighton & Hove Albion man they should turn to.

Although Buonanotte struggled to hit the ground running, Leeds just need to remember that Georginio Rutter is not exactly quick off the mark.

The Frenchman, who became one of the club’s biggest signings in 2024, scored in his first 20 Premier League appearances for Leeds and failed to score a single goal. It is almost exactly like Buonanotte’s situation.

While the Brighton loanee may not get the same amount of time as Rutter, unless his move is made permanent, Leeds could speed up the process by throwing him into the side for the rest of the season.

The main difference between Buonanotte and Rutter is the fact that the former has already shown his quality in the Premier League.

Just last season, the 21-year-old was involved in nine goals in all competitions, as Leicester City crashed out of the Championship during his loan spell.

If he did his best to save them it would be nice.

The South American not only has the output to match Aaronson, but he also has very little physical debt. At Leicester last season, he won almost eight duels per game. Aaronson, by comparison, won just four against Brentford last week.

If Leeds are to secure Premier League safety, making the most of Buonanotte’s loan spell will be key.
