Because Sean Kaufmantrading summer for land poses some surprising – but refreshing – challenges to To All Humanity.
“It was a great pleasure [transition],” Kaufman, 25, said to himself Us Weekly about season 5 of the Apple TV series. “I was telling everyone that what I want to do in this job are things that scare me. I want to complete 180 years.”
Kaufman, who rose to stardom playing Steven Summer I turned beautifulappreciated this change, he added, “Anything I don’t know or something I don’t know how to do [is something I want to try]. If I happen to know how to do something, I shouldn’t do it. I love being uncomfortable. I like to be uncomfortable. I love not knowing what happiness that is, what a privilege it is to learn.”
He continued: “I feel lucky enough that For All Mankind gave me the opportunity to do that where I was suddenly surrounded by green screens and a space motorcycle. I was like, ‘What am I doing?’
To All Humanitywhich premiered in 2019, presents another version of history where the Soviet Union lives on the moon before the United States. The series examines the consequences of the ongoing Space Race, drawing inspiration from the lunar plaque left on the moon by the Apollo 11 crew.
The exhibition features historical figures including astronauts, NASA officials, US presidents and other politicians. For All Mankind originally had a star Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Wrenn Schmidt, Sonya Walger, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña again Edi Gathegiwith Toby Kebbell, Tyner Rushing, Svetlana Efremova again Daniel Stern to collect characters.
In April 2024, To All Humanity has been renewed for a fifth season with a new generation at the center of the show. Kaufman plays the modern-day version of Kelly and Alexei’s son, Alex Poletov.
“The biggest thing I was worried about [when joining the show] being in the real atmosphere of Mars and what that would look like,” Kaufman recalled. “I met an astronaut and I was very nervous talking to him. I’ve been practicing for weeks. I was doing my monthly slo-mo tour and thought I found it. I showed him, and he was like, ‘What are you doing? It basically has the same gravity as Earth. You could have gone the same way.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, so that was all for nothing.’
To All Humanity allowed Kaufman to have fun in situations, such as when Alex rides a motorcycle to Mars in the season premiere.

“That was really cool. It was on a little machine that they set up. I had four walls of green screen around me and I had this little bike that I think really worked,” he noted. “It was a real motorcycle but it was set up for a mill, and it worked the way those horses work outside the malls. It was just me for three hours. [moving around in the same place] with a blanket of full space.”
Kaufman also thanked the OG cast for welcoming him.
“I feel lucky enough that they just shared their experiences with me,” he explained. “They’re all the best people I’ve worked with. They told me their soul, which is amazing. They really helped me feel at ease. At first I felt a little nervous and a little lost. I’ve never felt more familiar on a set because they’re like my family.”
New episodes of To All Humanity airs Fridays on Apple TV.
