Democrats have vowed to dismantle Trump-aligned coalitions if he is re-elected in November

Democrats have been brainstorming for months on how to retaliate against companies and figures closely aligned with President Donald Trump’s political agenda, telegraphing that merger breakdowns and subcommittee investigations will play a key role in their efforts to push back against the administration if he regains power.

Recently, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., took to social media to highlight his latest entry on that list.

“Brendan Carr is a corrupt political hack and bogus FCC chairman,” Jeffries said in a post on X. “This guy (and the organizations he promotes) will find themselves on the wrong side of a congressional investigation soon.”

Jeffries’ comments were made in response to Carr’s letter, which suggested the administration would comprehensively review the renewal of licenses for broadcasters who promote “fake news.”

The struggle for political relevance is not unique to Carr.

Comments are piling up as the country approaches November’s midterms — a key opportunity for Democrats to break the Republican ruling trifecta and push back openly against the Trump administration. Even regaining control of one chamber of Congress could prompt Democrats to make their revenge list.

Democrats like Sen. Ruben Gallego hopes to suppress companies that have received permission to merge under Trump’s watch.

“When we take power, no matter who the president is, we will dissolve your companies,” said Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., told Semafor.

“So all the money you made to create this merger will be useless. Your investors will be angry with you, and you may end up being fired as CEO because you wasted a lot of money and committed corruption in this process,” said Gallego.

Under the Trump administration, notable mergers include Paramount’s $82.7 billion acquisition of Warner Bros., Capital One’s $35 billion acquisition of Discover and Nippon Steel’s $14.9 billion acquisition of US Steel.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., echoed Gallego’s reasoning on the X site.

“Paramount should enjoy its news growth while it has it, because when the Democrats get power we will dismantle these anti-democratic information conferences,” Murphy wrote. “Everything.”

Skydance Media, Paramount’s parent company, has close ties to the Trump administration through its CEO, David Ellison — a Republican guest speaker at the 2026 State of the Union and a regular visitor to the White House.

Susan Rice, a former top official in the Biden and Obama administrations, also recently caused a stir after she appeared to promise political revenge during a Vox interview last month against corporations if Democrats regained control of Congress and the White House.

“They’re going to hold those who oppose Trump accountable and succeed at the ballot box,” Rice said.

“I think whether you’re a law firm, whether you’re a university, whether you’re a news organization, whether you’re a large company, whether you’re a professional, you need to play the long game, not the short game that has become so dangerous,” Rice added.

The subpoena power also forms part of how Democrats will look to achieve their goals if they regain power.

Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., the third most powerful Democrat in the House of Representatives, noted that using the subpoena power to bring in former President Bill Clinton likely paves the way for lawmakers to compel high-profile testimony from Trump’s trail.

“It sets an interesting precedent for who’s going to be in Oversight, and we’ll see what next year holds for Trump Inc. and the Trump family,” Aguilar said, referring to the demands that Democrats could make if they hold a majority in 2027.

The Democrats’ intentions extend to the private sector as well.

During a House Oversight Committee hearing last year, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, interrupted further calls for lawmakers to impeach billionaire Elon Musk over his work with the Department of Government Operations (DOGE).

“The proposal was to call Elon Musk, who is in charge of DOGE and he is the one who made the recommendations for this. [spending] cuts,” Crockett said.

His calls were taken from the Senate where Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vt., presented a similar proposal, citing Musk’s closeness to the president and influence on efforts to reduce government spending.

“Mr. Chairman, if we are serious about doing our constitutional duties, which I hope we all are, it is important that our committee hear from the person in charge of the federal government,” said Sanders to the committee.

Democrats reached by Fox News Digital did not respond to a request for comment on their plans to use their previous comments.
