Golden Bachelor Mel Owens Responds To Taylor’s Canceled Season

The Golden Bachelor Mel Owens has the weight of the cancellation of Taylor Frankie Paul‘s canceled season 22 of The Bachelorette.
“I think it’s unfortunate that he was put in that position where he had to answer for himself all the time but he was the one who had the allegations and the domestic violence he was dealing with. Putting him in the front, what did you think would happen with all these allegations?” Mel, 67, said on TikTok on Saturday, March 21.
Mel went on to comment that Qualifications A franchise is “good” if it’s “done right,” period Peg Munson he noted that the method “worked” in their relationship. (Mel ended his 1st season of The Golden Bachelor by giving Peg an engagement ring.)
“I think so Qualifications they should continue with the old formula they have because it works. Do not try to add a new mix to the image object. You just keep the same formula. I know they want different things and try to stay old, but still,” said Mel, before commenting on that Bachelor it’s a “big” franchise.
He continued, “I think it works. I think it’s always going to work. It might be old-fashioned, but that’s OK. It’s OK. You have to find the right formula. You know, you have a formula. … With the show, the way it’s set up, the formula has worked for 20, 25 years. Going outside of that formula, it’s going to be a problem.”
This post comes days after news broke that Taylor and her ex Dakota Mortensen are involved in an alleged domestic violence incident leading up to season 5 of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives to stop production. A spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department in Utah confirmed it Us Weekly at a time when there was an open “domestic assault investigation” involving Taylor and Dakota, noting that the allegations were “made on both sides.”
TMZ later released video on Thursday, March 19, of Taylor punching and throwing multiple chairs at Dakota at the 2023 event, which led to his arrest. At the time, he was charged with aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence with a child, aggravated battery and criminal mischief. Taylor eventually pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, and the other four charges were dismissed with prejudice. He later reached a plea deal.
Taylor’s attorney spoke out about the video, calling the act “disgraceful.” Hours later, ABC decided to cancel Taylor’s season.
“Due to the newly released video that surfaced today, we have made the decision not to continue with the new season The Bachelorette at this time, and we are focused on supporting the family,” said a spokesperson for Disney Entertainment Television Us in the statement.
Taylor’s attorney said Us in a statement saying “he is very grateful for ABC’s support as he prioritizes the safety and security of his family.”
“After years of silent mental and physical abuse and threats of retaliation, Taylor is finally finding the strength to confront her accuser and take steps to ensure that she and her children are protected from any further harm,” the lawyer said.
The statement continued, “Too many women suffer in silence as they survive violent, jealous ex-partners who refuse to let them move on with their lives. Taylor is silent for fear of further abuse, retaliation, and public shaming. She is currently exploring all her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story.”
Dakota, for her part, addressed the photo in a statement later that day.
“As anyone who has seen the video will understand, this is a very upsetting situation,” Dakota said at the time. “Unfortunately, I’m used to these baseless allegations about me and our relationship, which I completely deny. I’m focused on our son and his safety, and I hope Taylor does the same.”
Dakota has been granted a temporary protective order against Taylor, according to documents obtained by Us. She was also granted temporary custody of their son Ever, 2. (Taylor is also mother to daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 5, with her ex-husband. Father Paul.)
