For anyone new to it, this pairing didn’t just come out of nowhere.
Alysa Liu and Laufey’s Friendship Began Before the Olympics
The connection between Liu and Laufey developed during the Olympics, where Liu used Laufey’s song “Promise” in his short program. But the relationship actually precedes the Games.
Back in September 2025, Liu attended Laufey’s concert in San Francisco and was featured in the “Best Dressed Guest” segment. Laufey’s reaction to seeing an Olympic-level skater in his audience was pure joy.
“Guys, you look like the best figure skater in the world. Do you understand what this means to my eight-year-old figure skating heart?” Laufey said at the event. “But he’s amazing. He did the show ‘Promise’ and won the World Championships, which is crazy.”
That moment — the Grammy-winning singer hovering over a right-back playmaker — set the stage for everything that followed.
Alysa Liu’s Post-Olympic Whirlwind
At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Liu won two gold medals, including the team event and the women’s individual competition. She became the first American woman to win Olympic gold in women’s figure skating since 2002.
Since then, his life has been blurred by non-stop appearances and performances.
Liu has appeared in shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Today again 60 Minutes. He also presented the award to Taylor Swift at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
After the Olympics, Liu withdrew from the 2026 World Figure Skating Championships, citing logistical demands and insufficient preparation time. He is currently participating in the Stars on Ice tour in Japan, with additional performances planned for the United States.
Alysa Liu – From Skating Prodigy to Cultural Force and Laufey Music Video Star
Liu gained a huge social media presence following the Olympics, with more than 8 million Instagram followers. That reach caught the attention of artists like Laufey, who saw the spirit of camaraderie long before the gold medals made Liu a household name.
The fact that Liu is now appearing in music videos – not just performing songs on ice but appearing alongside the artists themselves – indicates something more than a post-Olympic media tour. This is the skater who uses Laufey and PinkPantheress in her Olympic programs and now she’s literally dancing alongside them on camera.
No details have been released about when the music video for “Madwoman” will drop, but given the momentum of the TikTok post and the star power involved, fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
