Tottenham are considering sacking Tudor as a ‘complete’ plan is fast falling into their laps
Cristian Romero has promised to give 200 per cent in Tottenham’s remaining seven “final” games to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Tottenham pulled deep in Forest’s loss
Spurs’ survival hopes took a major hit after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest dropped them to 17th place and increased their chances of being relegated for the first time since 1977.
Tottenham’s winless run in the Premier League stands at 13 games and although fans lined the streets on the N17 to welcome the team bus to the stadium, pre-match optimism has been replaced by a sense of inevitability after another crushing defeat.
“It’s a difficult day for everyone, but the first thing is to talk about the fans, thank you for today and stay with us always,” said Romero.
“They supported us amazingly, but we said, bad day, now it’s over and the most important thing is to understand the situation.
“It’s not easy but the important thing is to get to the national team and come back here for the final seven.”
“I promise (to put) 200 percent in everything and for me it’s not easy, but we all have to stay. It’s a bad day, yes, but we’ll go again.”
Spurs’ much-needed boost was built by a point at Liverpool and a 3-2 win at Atletico Madrid to boost the belief that a first league win of 2026 was on the horizon for rivals Forest.
An estimated 10,000 Tottenham fans spilled onto the High Road to create a raucous atmosphere ahead of the first leg, which was scrapped and followed by a fine first half.
Richarlison opened up one chance, Forest striker Igor Jesus deflected the ball off his crossbar, but Jesus provided a punch-time-sucker-punch before the break and although Mathys Tel responded with an effort to bend the crossbar, Spurs fell after the break.
Igor Tudor’s double substitution didn’t help, but plenty of home players canceled out Morgan Gibbs-White’s second after 62 minutes before Taiwo Awoniyi’s 87th-minute goal sealed a vital win for Forest to spark a crowd before full-time.
Romero told SpursPlay: “The start of the game and the first 45 minutes it’s like he’s good, he’s good on the pitch, he doesn’t concede anything and then in the last minute, he concedes a really sloppy goal, but now it’s over.”
Tottenham’s 10th home league loss of the campaign ended the interest before it started, but many fan groups’ plans will be in place for the next home game at N17 against Brighton on April 18.
“It’s surprising and especially at this time, after this season it’s not going well. In fact I (am) the first to take responsibility, but the fans thank you,” added captain Romero.
“Thank you for all the games, the support is very good and (now) it’s only about the players, the staff and we need to (give) more, especially me the first one, but in the last seven finals we will go through again.”
Tottenham are considering a “great opportunity” to replace Tudor
According to a report by Football Insider, Tudor is facing a tough time as the international break approaches, and Spurs chiefs are ‘accelerating plans’ to replace the Croatian player.
The original plan was to let the 47-year-old stay on until the end of the season and take his place this summer, but journalist Pete O’Rourke says the club see the two-week break as a ‘good opportunity’ to find a replacement quickly.
“For Tudor right now, it’s game by game for him and Tottenham. The speculation about his future will never end.
“Things didn’t go well for Tudor and Tottenham on Sunday, so the pressure will be very high.
“Obviously now he has an international break, it would be a good opportunity and give time for Spurs to make a change if they want.”
Tottenham travel to Sunderland after the international break, who will be full of confidence after their impressive comeback in the Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle.
