Alan Shearer savagely rips into “miserable” Newcastle after Sunderland defeat

Alan Shearer didn’t hold back after Newcastle United’s 2-1 defeat to rivals Sunderland, issuing a brutal decision.
Newcastle lost to Tyne-Wear
The Magpies started out swinging at St James’ Park. Not only did they avenge their 1-0 defeat earlier this season, but they also had a point to prove after being beaten 7-2 by Barcelona in midweek.
Just like in Barcelona, it didn’t take long before they finally got a goal because of their quick start. This time, it came courtesy of Luke O’Nien, whose lost name found Nick Woltemade, before the German found Anthony Gordon.
With plenty left to do, the Newcastle star evaded incoming rivals before slotting past Melker Ellborg to give his side a deserved lead.
It was his third goal in three games and looked set to set Newcastle up for a memorable day on Tyneside. The second half that followed looked familiar to those at St James’ Park.
Chemsdine Talbi’s equalizer came early after a defensive letdown from a Sunderland corner allowed the striker to bundle home. Then came Newcastle’s frustrated response. For the first time, Eddie Howe’s men looked like the team that had been overwhelmed by Barcelona just over a week ago.
While Newcastle looked shell-shocked, Sunderland remained undaunted and Brian Brobbey capitalized to score the latest winner in Tyne-Wear derby history.
Shearer criticizes “pathetic” Newcastle
It’s been more than a decade since Newcastle beat their rivals in the Premier League and club legend Shearer didn’t slow down. The former striker slammed Howe in 10 words – saying it was “sad, weak, lazy, loose from Newcastle again”.
It doesn’t get much more insulting than those on Tyneside, now below their Premier League rivals. Where they go from here with seven games left in the Premier League is now a big question, especially after such a bad week.
Speaking about the defeat, Howe said: “It’s very sad, it’s sad for the supporters. These are the ones I’m thinking of. There is very little you can use as an excuse. We are waiting for criticism so that I can understand the reaction in the end.
“I am fully committed to the job. I am disappointed with my performance today and this week. Today was more difficult than Barcelona. I take the blame – I will not turn away from the players until my last breath. It will be a painful few days for me.

The Newcastle star is a top target.
“It’s not a head loss. Our technical delivery was off today. We missed our midfielders, so it left us unbalanced. We played the way they wanted.
“We never want to accept hateful people. I understand the criticism.”
