Some directors like it Martin Scorsese again Quentin Tarantino they like to do cameos in their movies, but leave it to the professional actors.

But sometimes, actors do important work to sit in the director’s chair.

While some of the actor-turned-director’s movies show blatant, laughable vanity, others are honest creative masterpieces that showcase a new talent set for the celebrity that the public has never seen.

This week, Watch Us features our favorite movies directed by actors who decided to try something new — and the occasional award-winning score.

‘Get Out’ (2017)

After dating for a year, interracial couple Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and Rose (Allison Williams) have decided that it’s finally time for the “meet the parents” phase of their relationship. So, Alison invites Chris to spend the weekend at her parents’ home up north. Once there, Chris is not immediately comfortable around Rose’s family, and her parents, Dean (Bradley Whitford) and Missy (Catherine Keener), is found to be very small and acceptable. As the weekend progresses, a series of strange events occur that lead Chris to uncover a disturbing secret about his girlfriend’s family.

In addition to being nominated for several Academy Awards – including Best Picture and Best Director for the former Key & Peele a comedian Jordan PeeleGet out topped many “best movies of the year” lists back in 2017. It has also been seen as a game-changer in the exploration of social themes in today’s horror movies, with praise given to Peele’s sharp screenwriting, atmospheric tension and construction to portray it with real success. ‘The Bridges of Madison County’ (1995)

Older siblings Michael (Victor Slezak) and Carolyn (Annie Corley) arrive at the Iowa farm of their recently deceased mother, Francesca (Meryl Streep(Clint Eastwood). As her siblings read Francesca’s books and letters, they learn about the deep love between her and Robert that happened when they were away with their father on a trip as children. The brief, unrequited romance is linked to Francesca’s last wishes, which she hopes her children will honor her with – but the adoption leaves them at odds.

While Eastwood is famous for his romantic dramas in the West, Bridges of Madison County shows a male director at home and a story better suited to the Hallmark Channel. This saccharine love story is an age-defying romance The Titanic. Bolstered by the riveting, poignant chemistry between Streep and Eastwood, the movie is a sweet tale of two lovers who find each other too late. It’s romantic, mature, sensual and captivating with all the little details that mark two people in love.

‘The City’ (2010)

Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) leads a ruthless gang of robbers, including his aggressive brother James (Jeremy Renner) and their lifelong friends Albert (Slaine) and Desmond (Owen Burke). The group does what it does best by not getting emotionally attached to anything or anyone, but this changes for Doug when he takes on a bank employee named Claire (Rebecca Hall) captive. After letting her go, Doug looks for her next door to see if she’s revealed to the authorities, but she ends up doing something else: falling in love with him. As their romance progresses, Doug realizes that he wants out of his life of crime – but escape won’t come easily.

In the middle City, Argo, Gone Baby Gone again wind, Affleck has proven to be a talented filmmaker, though The city others consider him the best. Affleck directs this character-driven drama with flair and skill, working from a script he co-wrote that will surprise you with how much emotional punch it packs. The heist action sequences are exciting and intense, the atmosphere is authentic and the performances (especially Renner’s) bring a rich complexity to the characters.

‘A Star Is Born’ (2018)

The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper out the directional gate swinging through the fourth shift of classic Old Hollywood: A Star is Born. Cooper took the story of an aspiring singer and his doomed lover and gave it a modern pop country flavor, with Cooper in the role of veteran country singer Jackson Maine. Jackson finds and falls in love with a young singer named Ally Campana (Lady Gaga), but as his career begins and his spotlight grows, their relationship begins to fall apart. Meanwhile, Jackson is fighting a losing battle with his inner demons.

A Star is Born it was a big moment for both Cooper and Gaga, with Cooper proving that he is an extremely talented director, and Gaga – although she has acted before – proving that she has the talent, charisma and screen presence to become a serious Hollywood actress. Stripped of her outrageous meat outfits and “Bad Romance” pop songs, Gaga is a shockingly understated performer, and her talent shines through playing opposite Cooper’s troubled Jackson Maine. Finally, A Star is Born a moving and human portrait of addiction and fame.

‘Lady Bird’ (2017)

Visionary, strong-willed teenager Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) does not hesitate to admit that he looks like his mother (Laurie Metcalf), as the weather changes dramatically during Lady Bird’s year at a Catholic high school. Despite her family’s struggling financial situation, Lady Bird aspires to leave Sacramento for a prestigious college in New York City, and ignores her mother’s insistence that these dreams are unattainable. Throughout her senior year, Lady Bird experiences the ups and downs of school, friendship and family as she struggles to grow up.
