Doug Armstrong Seems Unlikely, But What About Kevyn Adams or Sunny Mehta of the Maple Leafs?

Toronto Maple Leafs GM/management search underway
Luke Fox: The Toronto Maple Leafs are using Neil Glasberg’s The Coaches Agency to lead their search for a new president of hockey operations. They are the sixth group to use Glasberg’s agency.
Chris Johnston: GM candidate Sunny Mehta is a Glasberg client.
Frank Seravalli: NHL official in text about Leafs hiring Glasberg’s Agency.
“1. Get paid to run a search.
2. Search hires your client as a GM (get paid again)
3. Client hires another client as HC (and you get paid) The only question is if Neil can hit the superfecta: search, client as president, client as GM, and client as head coach.”
Frank Seravalli: “In addition to the last tweet about conflict of interest, this is the LLC shell game Glasberg is playing to make everything appear above board. Reminder: We’ve already had one team terminate a search firm this spring due to conflict of interest.” Read more about the host, Daily Faceoff.

Friedman: “By the way, I said on Saturday, I don’t think the timing will work here between the Maple Leafs and the Blues for Doug Armstrong. It’s the second time, you know, first, like I said, there were some people in the Maple Leafs organization who wanted to talk to Armstrong when Treliving was hired, not like St. Louis. He never was.”
And I don’t know what the case is here, but I think the Blues, like Jeremy Rutherford wrote an article like, the time is wrong for the Blues. I don’t think Jeremy writes that. That, to me, was kind of a red alert for the whole situation. I don’t think he writes that without knowing it. And all I heard after that was that it looked like that.”
…
Kyle Bukauskas: “Is there anything else you wanted to add or clarify in the GM search interview we had on Friday?”
Friedman: “Yeah, I just have a few things.” Number one, as I said on Saturday, I think, I’ve heard this from a few different people. I think Sunny Mehta’s interest is real, and we’ll see where it goes.
Me, this is my personal opinion. I also wonder about Kevyn Adams for this job. Because the more I hear about him and what Pelley has to say, I think there’s a lot in common.
And you know, one of the things somebody said to me was that they signed Matsias Samuelson to a huge contract, in an unusual way, and they made an analysis bet on that one. And it didn’t start well, but boy, it looks really good now. And that’s obviously a lot of reason for Adams to make some of the decisions that they do. It took longer than I thought anyone wanted or hoped for. But hey, this is a results-oriented business, and it looks that way now. So I could see it.
But I also heard on Sunday that, and I felt this inside, it was like, ‘We’re closing this. It’s talked about a lot.’”
Bukauskas: “Oh, really?”
Friedman: “Yeah. It was like, it was crazy last week, you know, it was week one, and we’re all chasing candidates, and I’m as guilty as anybody. I think the Leafs want to lock it down a little bit.”
Bukauskas: “Okay.”
Friedman: “And I think the other thing is, that, you know, we talked about the Zoom call, and I think it was, as you can imagine, it was intense there, and there were some people who didn’t like how things were presented, they started to push back and say, ‘Hey, there’s a lot of suspicion going on here.’
Bukauskas: “Certainly, when you enter this situation and the threat of a big change coming, I can see it completely.”
