Newcastle are targeting the £160,000-a-week Man City star who has been lured in to play under Howe.

Newcastle United have entered the race to sign the “amazing” Manchester City star, whose future at the Etihad Stadium is up in the air.

Newcastle could be forced to reshape the squad this summer

As the season draws to a close, it looks like Newcastle will miss out on European football altogether, having managed to pick up 42 points from 31 Premier League games.

As such, there has been much speculation about the futures of some of Eddie Howe’s key players, and journalist Ciaran Kelly has suggested there could be one or two big moves in the summer.

Kelly says: “Newcastle need to be better marketers to reinvest in more areas in the side, and I don’t see the club shying away from trade this summer.

“That doesn’t mean there’s going to be a mass exodus, but I would think a few key figures will move on to get the big money, as well as a number of club players.”

Howe’s future has also been called into question, due to his failure to live up to expectations this season, with the True Geordie suggesting the PIF need to withdraw or sack the 48-year-old.

One of the manager’s biggest problems has been his defence, as he has shipped 45 goals in the Premier League, just two short of the total they have conceded in the entire 2024-25 campaign, and they have now joined the race for a centre-back.

“Incredible” Man City star on Magpies’ radar

According to a report from Sports Boom, Newcastle are now eyeing a summer move for Man City star Nathan Ake, whose future at the Etihad Stadium is in doubt, as he struggles to hold down a consistent place in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

Chelsea are also in the running for the defender, who earns £160k-a-week from Man City and would like to stay and find his place, but could be ‘attracted’ by both Stamford Bridge and St. James’ Park, if he decides to move on.

Howe is keen to sign the former AFC Bournemouth man, who he has managed for the past eight seasons, and he is certainly the type of player the Magpies should be looking to bring in.

Indeed, the 31-year-old has built up a wealth of experience at the highest level during his time with City, regularly competing in the Champions League and lifting 13 trophies.

Newcastle are holding talks for “one of the best strikers in the world” who is “ready” to join

Both Newcastle and Chelsea have held talks over the signing of the PSG star.

Hailed as “unbelievable” by Guardiola, the 58-cap Netherlands international still has plenty to offer at the top level, having put in a superb display against Arsenal in a 2-0 EFL Cup final victory, and Newcastle should make a move this summer.
