Spurs hold talks with 3-5-2 De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur bit the bullet and parted ways with Igor Tudor ahead of the final Premier League season.
The Croatian boss has struggled since taking over from Thomas Frank in February, and a 3-0 home defeat by relegation rivals Nottingham Forest before a family crisis meant parting ways with the right call.
Nottingham Forest and West Ham United have both improved in the last few months, while Spurs’ hard-hitting side have lost just one game, one goal at a time, since playing at Manchester City in early February.
Tudor is not to blame for the Lilywhites’ 17th-placed mess, but he may not be the solution, and with the March international break underway, ENIC Group are eyeing another managerial change ahead of the closing stages of the campaign.
The latest in the hunt for a Spurs manager
Tudor resigned after just 44 days and seven games in charge. Tottenham have not improved or strengthened but actually declined under the management of the 47-year-old.
Any number of words have appeared. Roberto De Zerbi appears to be the most likely candidate for ENIC, although the controversial coach was not too keen on taking the job before the summer.
Sean Dyche, who has been out of action since being sacked by Nottingham Forest, is another interesting option, although the relegation specialist will not inspire confidence in fans or players, who have lost confidence.
However, talkSPORT spokesperson, Alex Crook, has revealed that Robbie Keane is also being considered, and the Ferencvaros manager is in a position to take over temporarily until the end of the season.
Keane, like Tudor, will take over on an interim basis without having any previous experience of managing in the Premier League. But the former Spurs striker knows the club well, and was tipped as a front-runner earlier this month, with talks already taking place over his move.
However, there are more than a few differences that underline why this could be a great time for the Lilywhites.
Why Robbie Keane would be perfect for Spurs
Tottenham are under threat of relegation, and it doesn’t mean they can’t fumble their next move.
Keane must be appointed. He is a manager at the top, with a front foot, strong tactical approach that will suit the way the north Londoners and their supporters want to play football. In addition, he is a versatile tactician and versatile manager, played in 3-5-2 at times, but also moved to 4-2-3-1 in a formation that undoubtedly suits the specific strengths of this current crop.
Some believe Keane should have been brought in as soon as Frank was sacked, but there is a sense that managers Johan Lange and Vinai Venkatesham failed to understand the gravity of the problem down the N17.
Dyche knows a thing or two about avoiding the threat of relegation, but it’s not him. Keane could prove the difference in these final weeks as he stakes his claim for a long-term role as Tottenham’s new project manager.
Players like Xavi Simons have not been able to find their feet in the Premier League this season, but most of Spurs’ problems are due to the problem of confidence, and the undeniable effects of those big losses related to injuries.
In many ways, this final stretch of the season is up to the players, who need to find some form and keep Spurs out of danger.
Keane was always present and respected when he brought the players back to form by using a tactical approach that could get us behind. On the other hand, Tudor’s tactics were beyond doubt, and Dyche is as pragmatic as they come.

Time is running out, and each of Tottenham’s seven remaining Premier League games this season feels increasingly difficult. They can’t do this wrong, but by selecting Keane, the Spurs management will renew the confidence and unity that has proven at the root of this difficult season.
