Is St. Louis Blues Select Joel Hofer Over Jordan Binington

Is St. Louis Blues move on from Jordan Binington this summer?

NHL Rumors: Will the St. Louis Blues Will Continue To Sell Out This Offseason
Carter Hutton: “And you know, Pags, for me, one team that Kools and I touched on at the beginning, a big night to close Joel Hofer, the sixth this year. He is one behind Ilya Sorokin with less than 10 games played. What is happening in St. Louis now? Because he has one more year at $ 3.4 million. Binington has already passed 6 million. And $ 6 is already successful? what are they doing there?
Dave Pagnotta: “I think it’s going to pass. I think it’s going to pass and I know they really like Hofer. They obviously like Binnington well. But he’s older. They want to get past this a little bit, and he becomes a very valuable trade asset in the summer for teams that will look to celebrate their goals?”
Will it be in Edmonton? Will it be Carolina? Will it be another team? Philadelphia? Will it be another club looking to bolster their goaltending and have a chance to bring in a guy who can sign an extension after that?
Now, Binnington has no trade protection. He has a changed trade, so he will have to say where he is going. But one of those teams is Montreal. Is it another, like, they’re going to be options in the market for a player like Jordan Binington. What happened in Florida? Can they re-sign (Sergei Bobrovsky)? If not, maybe that’s an option and so on. Although I think they will get that.
NHL Trade Deadline Fallout: Islanders, Blues, No-Movement and No-Trade Clauses
But there will be a small market for goaltending, and I think St. Louis understands that. They didn’t want to rush into anything before the deadline. There are groups that have been roaming around. I expect that to continue.
And I think Hofer is going to be a guy going forward, in a long-term sense, with the Blues, and they’re going to have to get an extension on his end as well. As you said, he is entering the last year of his contract.”
NHLRumors.com Note: St. Louis Blues were looking to make a big move at the deadline, moving Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas, and Jordan Binington. None of them were traded, although teams inquired about Binnington.
However, with the Carolina Hurricanes moving on from Frederik Andersen at the end of the season and the Montreal Canadiens needing a goaltender, there will be a lot of interest in him this summer. With the games now leaning heavily in Joel Hofer’s favor, it appears that he is the guy moving forward in St. Louis.
