Tottenham are eyeing Chris Hughton as a ‘surprising’ option to replace Igor Tudor

Tottenham are reportedly eyeing the former Nottingham Forest boss to step in as Igor Tudor’s temporary replacement, and it’s not actually Sean Dyche who has been heavily linked.
It is reported that Igor Tudor is ready to leave Spurs soon
The clock is ticking on Tottenham.
Three weeks before their next Premier League game, a trip to Sunderland on April 12, and the club are expected to head there under a different manager than the one who came off the bench in Sunday’s 3-0 home win over Nottingham Forest.
Indeed, according to many reports, Tudor will apparently be leaving this week, so that much seems to be settled.
Inside, defeat to Vitor Pereira’s side had been marked as a line in the sand – a result that would spark change.
The line was overrun, with goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi sending the fans home and heading for the exit long before the end.
Attention has now shifted to who will take over after Tudor closes its N17 tour in the coming days.
Roberto De Zerbi has apparently made it clear he won’t be joining mid-season, with some reports suggesting Spurs legend Robbie Keane will take the job regardless of Tottenham’s division, but wants to be appointed permanently.
Mauricio Pochettino and De Zerbi were the top names on the list in the summer – but it can only happen if Spurs avoid relegation, which from 17th place and one point above West Ham is not certain.
That leaves the immediate question of who will right the ship in the final seven games of the season.
And it’s here that TEAMtalk reveals a name that will resonate with fans and spark a very different era in the club’s history.
Tottenham are seriously considering Chris Hughton as interim manager
Indeed, according to their details, Chris Hughton is now being strongly regarded by Tottenham management as a ‘surprise’ temporary hire.
The 67-year-old has the widest and most genuine club connections of any living footballer.
He joined Spurs aged 13 in 1971, signed professionally in 1979 and spent 13 years as a defender, making 398 appearances and winning two FA Cups, the UEFA Cup and the League Cup.
After that, having retired as a player in 1993, he remained on the coaching staff for another 14 years, until 2007, working under 11 different managers.
Along the way, he had three different stints as Spurs manager – so going back through those doors wouldn’t be a walk into the unknown.
As a manager himself, Hughton has a solid, if unspectacular, CV.
He took Newcastle up to the Premier League as title winners in 2010, then guided Brighton to the top flight in 2017 and kept them there for two seasons.
His methods are based on defensive organization and collective efforts – exactly the kind of sensible approach, stabilizing the club one point above the relegation zone that it desperately needs right now.
He has been without a team since he was sacked as Ghana coach in January 2024, following their group stage exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
His last English club position was Nottingham Forest, where he was released in 2021 after a difficult start to the Championship season.
A two-year gap with management will raise eyebrows, and TEAMtalk admits that Hughton himself represents a shocking option.
But in a crisis built on chaotic decision-making and short-term firefighting, the vision of a man who knows Tottenham inside out – and doesn’t carry the noise that comes with big names – has real logic behind it.
Tottenham are considering sacking Tudor as a ‘complete’ plan is fast falling into their laps
The Lilywhites have been given the ‘perfect’ opportunity to make a change.
