The price improvement he left in 2019 is now more important than any other player at West Brom

West Bromwich Albion appear to be on track to avoid relegation from League One after winning back-to-back Championship games for the first time in 2026.
James Morrison took over the job until the end of the season after Eric Ramsay was sacked and has managed two wins and two draws in his last four games.
The Baggies have decided to part with their last coach because he failed to win his nine games in charge of the club after leaving Minnesota United to replace Ryan Mason.
Morrison has done an impressive job as interim manager, winning the last two games against Hull and Bristol City, and looks set to lead the team to survival.
Getting a spot in Isaac Price has played a major role in the team’s upturn in form, with one goal and 11 chances created by the striker in the last three games.
How James Morrison opened Isaac Price
During Ramsay’s time in charge of the Baggies, Price played as a wing-side-back in the back five and as a regular right-back in the back four on several occasions.
Playing him as a full-back or full-back eliminated his attacking threat, relegated him to the odd cross from rare overlapping positions, and made him look less efficient than he is.
Morrison, however, has made him play centrally in a 4-4-2, allowing him to roam inside or stay wide to take on his full-back, and open up his attacking potential, scoring for the first time in 11 games against Hull recently.
No player has created more chances than Price (11) in the Baggies’ last three league games, showing that his creative qualities are finally coming to the fore after being hidden in Ramsay’s system.
The Northern Irishman is now showing why he is the club’s most valuable player on Transfermarkt, at £8.6m, and Morrison deserves credit for giving him the right platform to shine.
While Price is in fine form and has impressed for the West Brom side, there has never been a better left-back for the Baggies than the Northern Irishman.
This former West Brom striker is even better than Isaac Price
The club has had some excellent talent at The Hawthorns over the years, and one of those talents has recently earned a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
Harvey Barnes, who received his Three Lions call-up this month, spent the first half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan at West Brom from Leicester City.
During his time with the Baggies, the English striker scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 26 Championship games before the Foxes decided to recall him in January 2019, seven years ago.
It was a short, but sweet, time for him at The Hawthorns, with the left-back bringing in goals and helping regularly as a young player looking to make a name for himself.
Barnes went on to score 45 goals and provide 32 assists in 187 appearances for Leicester before Newcastle stepped in to sign him for £38m after the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League in 2023.
The 28-year-old has scored 28 goals and provided 13 assists in 113 appearances for the Magpies so far, and has been on fire in the Champions League for his side this season.

Barnes has more Champions League goals (11) than Price did for West Brom in the Championship (nine) in 39 outings, which speaks to the difference in quality between the two strikers.
At the time of writing, the Newcastle star is valued at around £28m by Transfermarkt. That’s well above the £8.6m Price was valued at, making Barnes the most valuable player in the Baggies’ squad.
It’s a shame that West Brom fans have only been able to enjoy his talents for half a season, because he showed real promise during his loan spell and has become a good enough player to be called up to England.
Hopefully, the Baggies will be able to identify more young talents with the same potential as Barnes, and keep them for the rest of the season or even sign them permanently in the upcoming transfer windows.
