Rangers let future “£50m+ winger” leave Ibrox for £0

Since Danny Rohl’s arrival at Ibrox in October, only five players in the Glasgow Rangers squad have featured more often than 18-year-old striker Mike Moore, as the youngster has reached new heights under the German’s watch.
Under Russell Martin, the promising England international started just six games, never played the full 90 minutes once and registered just one assist, with six of his Gers goals coming since the switch.
In 2026, in particular, the man on loan from Tottenham Hotspur has established himself as his club’s “best player”, according to former Ibrox hero Steven Naismith, starting each of the seven Premiership games.
There is increasing talk of a permanent move ahead of the summer window, although there is no certainty that Moore will be a Rangers player next season, especially if the club’s recent loan history is anything to go by.
How does Moore compare to previous Rangers loan signings
2025/26 represents another campaign where arguably the star attraction of the Glasgow side has come in the form of a loan arrival, that has been a consistent theme of the last few years for the Light Blues.
In terms of pure output, Moore’s six-goal, three-assist return doesn’t really compare well to those who came before him, although he wouldn’t tell the whole story.
Last season, for example, Vaclav Cerny netted 18 goals in all competitions, while registering another nine assists in his lone season at Ibrox, while the year before, Abdallah Sima scored 16 goals on loan to Brighton and Hove Albion, along with two assists.
Meanwhile, 2022/23 was Malik Tillman’s campaign, with the German-born American scoring 12 goals and providing five assists, following his arrival from Bayern Munich.
That said, given his age, a good comparison might be to then-youngster Amad Diallo, with the Ivory Coast international joining in January 2022, although he continues to score just three points in 13 games, amid a quiet impact under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Of that latest, notable quartet of loan signings, it is undoubtedly Amad who has continued to enjoy the biggest rise since then, however, who is now a mainstay at parent club Manchester United and is valued at around 50 million euros ($42m), according to Transfermarkt.
Seeing a waning talent blossom in recent years doesn’t hurt too much considering he was only a short-term player for Rangers, which is sad to see them lose theirs in recent times.
Rangers have already ditched the “£50m+ winger” for the future at Ibrox
The recent news that 16-year-old Kyle Glasgow has penned his first professional contract with the Light Blues was met with excitement and something of a surprise, with the youngster remaining loyal to the club despite a raft of Premier League and European interest.
Rangers can’t forget to sign Moore by releasing “their answer to Leo Messi”
Rangers could move on from Mikey Moore by releasing the Ibrox star at left-back.
The sad truth is – as in the case of Billy Gilmour, for example – that both Rangers and Celtic have had to see similar talents poached by English clubs for a long time now.
That was certainly the case for one-time academy sensation, Abedire Mebude, with the London-born winger having joined the Gers at the age of ten, before moving up the youth ranks alongside his older brother, Dapo.
At the same time as his aforementioned Glasgow career, however, Mebude chose not to extend his stay in Scotland, instead turning down a contract offer from the Ibrox side to join Premier League giants Manchester City.
Like many, the young Scottish international didn’t get a chance at the Etihad in the first team, although he was a revelation in school football, scoring some exciting goals in Manchester.
In City’s U18 team, he registered 34 goals and assisted in a record 30 games, according to Transfermarkt, while repeating that form at U21 level, with 26 goal involvements in 33 games.
A £1.65m deal with Belgian club Westerlo quickly followed in the summer of 2023, although writing at the time, analyst and now former Como scout Ben Mattinson predicted that Mebude would become a “£50m winger” in time, describing him as a “fantastic prospect”.
Although he would go on to score four goals in 36 appearances for the Pro League side, his move to Turkey in January proved fruitful.
Like 21-year-old Moore – who can work either side – he has been impressive in 2026 so far, registering four goals and an assist in his first seven Super Lig games for Caykur Rizespor.
He was described as looking “frighteningly good” in his youth days at City by Mattinson, and that has started to show at the top level, with his record total of six goals and assists this season not far behind Moore’s return of nine.
A direct, flexible dribbler who is comfortable in a variety of attacking roles, like Moore, Mebude is certainly one to watch in the coming years.
Indeed, if Mattinson’s £50m-plus prediction comes true, this could sound like another frustrating story of a runaway as far as Rangers are concerned.
